Sometimes, stepping out of your shoes as a performer and bringing a character to life, with a heavy storyline, can be emotionally taxing.
And actress Nompilo Maphumulo, who plays Nosipho on Uzalo, can attest to this.
The talented actress, whose character is currently being abused by her boyfriend Njeza, took to social media to share that it wasn’t easy bringing the role to life.
“What’s important is to learn from this storyline. It wasn’t emotionally and mentally easy to bring it to life. But in those moments, I had to remind myself that I am a voice for those victims and have to carry it through, despite being so taxing,” she said.
Since her gripping storyline around gender-based violence, people have been applauding her, together with co-star Nkanyiso Makhanya, for their great job.
Nompilo also took time to show her gratitude.
“Thank you everyone for your continuous support. It doesn’t end here – get help; say no to GBV.”
Also with the hopes to eradicate GBV, Uzalo has brought in veteran actor Patrick Shai as an extension to the storyline.
Spokeswoman Nomfundo Zondi previously told Daily Sun that Patrick would come in to talk to the men of KwaMashu, and plead with them to protect women.
“We hope that with this storyline, there will be an improvement in decreasing the number of gender-based violence incidents,” she said.
