Nandi Madida is at the centre of an ongoing Twitter debate which was triggered by her ‘motivational’ tweets.
Her attempt at motivating young people took a left turn when she attached life’s achievements to age.
It is without a doubt that she has achieved many things in her life. Not many 30 something-year-olds can afford to buy their kid land to build a farm. So many people thought Nandi was speaking from a point of privilege.
Even though the songstress and business woman’s intentions were good, the majority argue that her wording should have been different as she has now discouraged a bunch of 30-year-olds who have not yet reached their goals.
Even though her message clearly is directed at a certain group of people who are coming from well-off families and have all the luxuries in the world, some argue that her placing an age stamp to how life should go, reduces the quality and meaning to her message.
“I always say this to young people who work in my company. The ages 18-25 yrs are so critical. If u waste that time being a rebel wasting ur parents money, being cool, hanging around wrong circles etc. U waste so much time & before u know it u’re 30 with nothing to show for your life,” she wrote.
The 32-year-old then adds that her being disciplined and listening to her parents got her to where she is currently.
“life goes by so quickly! Every year counts.. minimize your regrets and do the right thing. Take charge of your life!” she concluded.
I say this as a 32 year old woman.. all the people I know who are successful were all very focused when they were young, still had fun but were humble enough to listen to those who had lived life a little longer.. Listening to my parents good advice saved me from so much.

Her message clearly landed as an insult to majority of Twitter and she sparked a massive debate, swiftly taking her to the top of the trends list.
Here are some of the arguments:
I think Nandi meant well but she speaks from a point of privilege.
Nobody knows what life has planned for us. When I was 25 I looked very successful- at 40 I’m still trying to find my feet. There is no right way to do life. We are just doing the best we can with what we have.

Nandi was highly misinterpreted
There is nothing wrong with being 30 and having nothing when things didnt work out for you or you didnt have luck
But being 30 and having nothing because you chose to be cool and hang around in corners living off parents money can’t be normalized pic.twitter.com/qceqmOQbvt

“Society has become so dysfunctional that truth insults people” thank you @Nandi_Madida for reminding some kids the very rare truth. abanamehlo babonile, abanezindlebe bazwile, abanonembeza bahlabekile. Respek! ✊🏿 pic.twitter.com/inXfMhx6ho

I don’t remember Nandi talking about family backgrounds, socioeconomic issues etc., she is simply saying if you have the privilege and potential of doing something with your life during those prime ages do it, don’t waste your time with people or things which won’t benefit you. pic.twitter.com/60vF7b8nyZ

Only because it’s Twitter…
There is legit fake and unnecessary outrage about that 30’s thing…
Nandi literally said “Don’t squander your life…”
She didn’t say have it all figured out by 30, she said whatever you have, don’t fuck it up.
But because it’s Twitter…
