City of Cape Town: Demand for MyCiTi bus service increasing

The City of Cape Town says it has seen a steady increase in demand for its MyCiTi bus service.

The service currently operates along 44 routes across Cape Town.

Transport MMC Rob Quintas said that the number of MyCiTi bus passenger journeys in March this year had increased by more than 233,000 compared to the same period in 2022.

Quintas said that the rise confirmed that there’s a growing demand for a safe, affordable, and dignified transport service in Cape Town.

He added that the city was currently expanding its MyCiTi footprint with new routes connecting communities from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Wynberg and Claremont.

“With R5.2 billion allocated to this project over the next three years, it’s the largest-ever public transport infrastructure project in the Western Cape. We are committed to bringing down the costs of public transport and the amount of time commuters spend travelling, especially in these times of high fuel prices.”
