Motsoeneng says SABC & SIU don’t know what they’re talking about on R11.5 million success fee fight

Former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng said the Special Investigating Unit (SABC) and his erstwhile employer “don’t know what they’re talking about” when it comes to the ongoing legal tussle over his R11.5 million “success fee”.

He has an appeal bid against the Johannesburg High Court’s 2021 ruling that the award was unlawful and he had to pay back the money.

While the latest appeal is set to come before the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) next week, Motsoeneng has been refused leave to appeal twice before – first by the High Court and then by the SCA.

He later successfully petitioned the SCA president for a reconsideration.

Motsoeneng has expressed confidence in his legal team, saying they’ve prepared well.

“It’s up to the legal team to make sure that they fight this battle and I believe that I have a good legal team to stand by me.”

He said his confidence was also bolstered by the SCA president’s decision to send the matter back to court for reconsideration and that ultimately, he believes he has a strong case.

“I believe the SIU and the SABC, they don’t know what they are talking about in these arguments.”

His application for leave to appeal has been set down for hearing next week Wednesday.
