EFF calls for calm after fatal shooting of Joburg PR councillor Moshe Mphahlele

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called for calm following the fatal shooting of its Johannesburg PR councillor, Moshe Mphahlele.

Mphahlele, who was also the EFF regional deputy secretary, was shot and killed on Sunday during violent protests in Alexandra township.

The protests started when homeless people wanted to occupy vacant government-owned flats in Bramley forcibly.

EFF Gauteng spokesperson, Dumisani Baleni, said protests were protected under the South African Constitution and there was no justification for any of the law enforcement officials to use live ammunition.

“The EFF will not rest until those responsible for the death of our Fighter are brought to justice. The organization has deployed its structures to support the family of Fighter Mphahlele and the community of Johannesburg, Alexandra in particular. We call for calm and discipline among our members and the public as we seek justice.”
