The Moses Mabhida Stadium has started coming to life as African National Congress (ANC) supporters stream into the venue, singing and chanting ahead of hearing from its president, Cyril Ramaphosa.
The ANC will on Saturday launch its manifesto in Durban for the May general elections.
Some party supporters have also been singing anti-Jacob Zuma songs in retaliation over his backing of the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party.
A crowd that once sang ‘Wenzeni UZuma?’ in defence of the former president appeared to be unhappy with his connection to the MK party.
Crowds have been singing anti-Zuma songs, suggesting the former ANC president disrespected the party.
Some arrived with an artificial coffin bearing the MK logo and Zuma’s picture with a big label reading ‘RIP Zuma, RIP MK.’
All this is happening at a very lively Moses Mabhida Stadium, with more crowds starting to arrive.
At the same time, Zuma is set to also address an MK gathering in the south of Durban.
On Saturday afternoon, Ramaphosa will take to the podium to address those gathered at the stadium.
