Mohamed Salah injury confirmed by scan

Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief after scan results revealed Mohamed Salah did not suffer a serious injury in the clash with Leicester.

The Egyptian forward was taken out by a late challenge from Foxes midfielder Hamza Choudhury, which was later criticised by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

However, despite Salah limping away from the tackle and out of the game, he has only sustained a twisted ankle.

The Echo reports that there is currently no timescale set for Salah’s recovery, but he looks to have avoided any long-term damage.

Choudhury received a yellow card for his lunge in the closing moments of Saturday’s tie, with Klopp left fuming about it post-match.

“This kind of challenge to me – I don’t want to speak any more about the player – but this has to be a red card,” Klopp said. “It is just too dangerous.

“There are more dangerous challenges, it is possible, but do you see more dangerous challenges than that? It is really rare.

“It not that I want to see players sent off. The best players are quick technicians and it should not be possible if you take them down this way you get a second chance.

“That’s it. It is more a general thing than this. It looked to me at the moment completely on purpose – he is away, stops the situation.”

Liverpool waited until swelling around Salah’s ankle had reduced to run scans, but were fairly hopeful of there not being a severe outcome.

Salah now has the international break to recover from his injury, after he was left out of the Egypt squad for their friendly with Bostwana in order to rest.

Liverpool is not due in action again until they face Man Utd at Old Trafford on October 20, giving him a full fortnight to prepare.
