COVID-19: Schools waiting for mobile classrooms

Some schools in Soweto are struggling to practice social distancing, with over 70 pupils in some classrooms.

Boikanyo Higher Primary School’s principal says they’re still waiting for mobile classrooms they’ve requested from the district.

Primary schools have returned to full-time learning from Monday.

Teacher unions say they are all for pupils returning to class full-time.

But, they are concerned about schools’ ability to practice social distancing.

They say while Gauteng may manage, provinces like KwaZulu-Natal and the Northern Cape are still battling overcrowding and water-related issues.

They are calling on the government to speed up the delivery of mobile classes.
