Some MK Party supporters accuse IEC of bias in Jacob Zuma case

Some uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party supporters have accused the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) of political bias for wanting to remove their leader, Jacob Zuma from its list of candidates.

The IEC has taken Zuma to the Constitutional Court to seek clarity on Section 47 of the Constitution.

The commission initially disqualified Zuma as a candidate based on this section, however, its decision was overturned by the Electoral Court.

Over 100,000 party supporters gathered outside the Constitutional Court in Johannesburg on Friday to show support for their leader.

Supporter Bongani Sibaya said the IEC should have respected the decision of the Electoral Court.

“I’m very disappointed. We are here on appeal, the case has been won but now they are calling us back for an appeal however we shall not despair, we will give our full support for Jacob Zuma.”

Another MK supporter Nwabisa Mgojo said the IEC has now entered the political arena.

“I feel like the IEC has been working in favour with our governing party [African National Congress] and the white monopoly capitalist system hence they are doing what they doing trying to disturb MK.”

Supporters said that whatever happens, Zuma will remain their leader.
