Jabulani Khumalo loses urgent court bid to be sworn in as MK Party MP

Embattled uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party founder Jabulani Khumalo has lost his urgent bid to be sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP) on Thursday.

The Western Cape High Court said he failed to show why the matter was urgent, and it has been struck from the roll.

Khumalo had asked the court to allow him access to Parliament on Friday, pending a second application to the court to consider whether his expulsion from the party has been above board.

Khumalo was removed from the MK Party’s top spot on its candidate’s list last week, after it wrote to Parliament saying Khumalo was no longer a member of the party.

On Wednesday, the Electoral Court also dismissed a related matter in which Khumalo claimed his removal as party leader had also been dodgy.

Khumalo told the court on Thursday that his expulsion had also not followed proper process.
