New Metal Slug Game Shadow Just Released

Metal Slug Attack Reloaded has just shadow-dropped on multiple platforms. While many fans are already aware of the upcoming Metal Slug Tactics game coming out, a surprising announcement was unveiled by SNK that a different Metal Slug entry has been released without too much fanfare. The tower defense game was previously released on mobile in 2016 and was shut down in early 2023.

 

While many gamers are familiar with the run-and-gun gameplay that Metal Slug provides, the series has also tried to explore various improvements and changes to its formula. The aforementioned Metal Slug Tactics as well as a mid-2000s Metal Slug 3D game deviates from the side-scrolling shoot-em-up that the series is known for. However, another lesser-known entry in the series was the mobile-only game Metal Slug Attack Reloaded.

In a surprising bit of news, Metal Slug Attack Reloaded has just been released digitally on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and others. The popular mobile game is a tower defense take on the Metal Slug franchise. While it includes everything that the mobile version has had, it also introduces a new character in the form of Mostro. Not only that, but it also freshens up some features to take advantage of modern hardware.

A complete audio overhaul, a new story mode, and a gallery mode are just some of the new things introduced in this new version of the game. With the Metal Slug franchise being one of the best-sellers in the SNK library, expectations for this title are high.

Admittedly, another Metal Slug mobile game had also made the rounds online previously. Metal Slug: Awakening only came out on select platforms, but followed the series’ iconic gameplay closer than Attack Reloaded and the upcoming Metal Slug Tactics. Most fans were hoping that it would be the game to garner a multiple console release, but that has yet to happen. Still, the premise of the franchise doing other gaming genres should help the characters, setting, and lore grow deeper, thereby creating more possible content in the future

While there is no clear news on whether the series will return to its roots with a mainline entry, many fans can only assume that Metal Slug AttackReloaded being released could help keep the franchise on the radar. The Metal Slug series is one of the best cooperative shoot-em-ups ever released, and a return to the original formula is inevitable. Hopefully, SNK can assess the need for a new mainline entry once the reviews for Metal Slug Attack Reloaded come out.
