Meghan Markle has plans of bringing colouring books, pens and baby clothes from her son Archie to give to fellow young mothers during her royal tour of South Africa.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to bring their five-month-old son to Cape Town and Johannesburg where Meghan will focus on helping women in the region.
She has reportedly been asking advice on what she can bring with her to make an ‘immediate, useful’ difference to the people she meets, according to the Sunday Telegraph .
A source close to the royal couple said Meghan will be packing quality hand-me-down baby clothes that Archie has grown out of to fellow mothers.
The insider said: “She’s been very thoughtful about asking, ‘What can we bring? What else can we do?’
“She wants to be really personally engaged. This is important to her.”
While Prince Harry will follow his mother, Princess Diana’s footstep through focusing on conservations, landmines and links with the UK, Meghan will stay with baby Archie in South Africa where she focuses on the education and safety of women.
Meghan will also address the issue of gender violence the moment she lands in South Africa.
The Duchess of Sussex has made women’s rights the a focus of her agenda.
She will tackle the issue within hours of landing with Archie in Cape Town on Monday, sources close to the couple said.
Despite royals usually not involving themselves in the politics of their host country, it is understood the couple will not be able to ignore the urgent issue during their nine-day tour there.
President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday declared feminicide a national crisis after August was recorded to be the deadliest month for crimes against women in the history of the country, with more than 30 women losing their lives.
“There is a dark and heavy shadow across our land. Women and children are under siege,” Mr Ramaphosa said, describing South Africa as one of “the most unsafe places in world to be a woman”.
In other news – Body of suspected thief found electrocuted at sub-station
A suspected thief was electrocuted at the Westfield substation near Modderfontein, City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said on Saturday. “The body was found by our technicians on Friday hanging from one of the transformers,” Mangena said.
“It is suspected that the suspect tried to vandalize the substation and steal copper and cables from the transformer when he was electrocuted and died on the scene.” continue reading
