Education Department to meet with Eskom over blackouts

The Basic Education Department will be meeting with Eskom management on Thursday as thousands of matric pupils struggle to study and write exams during rolling power cuts.
They are writing their final National Senior Certificate examinations.
“There are many efforts that are being made by the education system to try the learners under the circumstances. But outside school premises, it becomes difficult if the electricity supply is not available,” Basic Education spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said.
“In the country, there should be a certain time when load-shedding can happen. We have prepared different proposals that we will give them. The cry for help is not coming only from Basic Education. Everyone is affected.
“Our plea for assistance will also be heard and will land in good ears that will try to find a way to manage the current situation.”
