Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed disappointment at a teacher who was arrested for allegedly being in possession of drugs at a school in Ekurhuleni.
The Gauteng Department of Education said precautionary measures had been taken against the educator while an investigation was underway.
Residents in Thokoza protested last week, calling for the teacher to be removed from the school.
“MEC Chiloane indicated his disappointment about this incident, and vehemently condemns such conduct and commits that action will be taken against this teacher,” said spokesperson Xolani Mkhwenete.
“He also pleads with the community to allow this matter to be handled by the department and relevant law enforcement authorities for appropriate resolution.”
