It has been confirmed that Maurice the Horse has safely made his way back into Dead by Daylight. The horse, who went missing from Father Campbell’s Chapel in June 2022, will be returning to Dead by Daylight after an extensive absence.
Maurice is a horse belonging to Dead by Daylight killer the Clown, having pulled his caravan into the Entity’s realm. Being severely burnt and blinded upon reaching the Realm of the Entity, the Entity itself mysteriously took pity upon Maurice, granting him a third eye through which he could see again. For many years, Maurice could be found on the Father Campbell’s Chapel map, lying down near the Clown’s caravan. However, shortly following the release of the new killer the Dredge, Maurice completely vanished from the trial grounds, with the only clue to his fate being found in the occasional horse head that could fall from the Dredge’s dark mist during his idle lobby animation.
However, the Dead by Daylight Twitter account has announced that Maurice has safely returned to the Realm of the Entity, and that he will be returning to Father Campbell’s Chapel following a day’s rest. Dead by Daylight Tome 14’s cutscenes heavily feature Maurice and seem to somewhat explain what happened to him when he disappeared, with a giant octopus beginning to crush the three-eyed horse to death before a girl known only as Saku defeated the monster and cut him free. After riding Maurice off into the sunset, it seems the horse was free to return to the Entity’s realm.

As for how Maurice survived his encounter with new killer the Dredge, if survivors can repeatedly be killed and revived by the Entity, the same can likely be done for a horse. The Entity seems to have taken a liking to Maurice, seeming to even pity him to a degree, and also has a use for him through being able to see through his third eye. As such, it makes sense for the Entity to want to keep Maurice around as he functions in a manner similar to the crows found throughout the trial ground.

It’s wild to think that Dead Island 2 may only be a few months away.
A sequel to the 2011 holiday in someone else’s misery was first announced in 2014 with Yager at the helm, then in 2016 it was announced that Sumo Digital had taken over, and now Dambuster Studios will be bringing it over the finish line, having started development from scratch four years ago.
