Ellies to shut down manufacturing unit

The migration from analogue to digital television has had a toll on electronics group Ellies.

The group which makes TV brackets, terrestrial antennae and satellite dishes forecast that it’s unlikely to turn a profit for the next two years.

Ellies says government delays in implementing South Africa’s digital terrestrial television programme have also contributed to its challenges. Ellies also posted a pre-tax loss which was just R2-million short of the group’s profit.

Sales have not been enough to cover much of the fixed costs or to generate sufficient profit to sustain the business.
