Man Utd Star Goes AWOL

Just days before their Premier League campaign gets underway, Manchester United’s preparations have been disrupted after one of their players reportedly went AWOL.
On Monday, United forward Romelu Lukaku was pictured training with former club Anderlecht, sparking speculation that the Belgian international’s departure from Old Trafford was imminent.

The Independent has since reported that it was the Red Devils’ day off and that Lukaku had been given permission to train with the Belgian side.

However, Belgium’s all-time leading goalscorer failed to report for training yesterday, and is now considered AWOL by United. The 26-year-old reportedly refused to return to the club’s Carrington training ground as he looks to force a move away from Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.

Lukaku was previously linked with a move to Juventus as part of a deal that would see Paulo Dybala go the other way, but the Manchester club was unable to reach an agreement with the Argentine forward.

Fellow Serie A side Inter Milan are now favourites to sign the former Chelsea and Everton striker, despite having seen a £54 million (R983 million) offer rejected last month.
Lukaku joined United from the Toffees in 2017, and has scored 42 goals in 96 appearances for the club since.
