Julius Malema thanks Ramaphosa for reducing sentences for certain prisoners

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that he will be granted a number of prisoners remission – AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo is reportedly amongst those Ramaphosa has identified as deserving a reduction – EFF leader Julius Malema has thanked the president for considering an early release for the inmates.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is contemplating reduced sentences for a number of citizens currently in prison. eNCA reports that AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo and Fees Must Fall activist Khaya Cekeshe are among those being considered. Economic Freedom Fighter boss Julius Malema has thanked Ramaphosa for his efforts, but other Fees Must Fall members are not as satisfied.

One of the group’s organisers is Temaswati Dlamini, who says that they are unhappy with Justice Minister Ronald Lamola: “We are not happy at all because the minister failed to be specific on the date. We are expecting the minister to come here and tell us as students, as student activists, on the exact date on when Kanya will be released but the minister is giving us long stories like this process is going to take time. It can take a year. It can be tomorrow. So as students we are not happy with the minister.” Lamola says that Cekeshe is now eligible to apply for parole now, instead of only in February, while Dalindyebo has already been eligible for parole for the past two months.
