The movement between provinces still remains prohibited under lockdown level 3.
However, those starting work, moving into a new residence, caring for a family member, or attending a funeral will be allowed to move.
The announcement was made by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma during a media briefing by the National Coronavirus Command Council.
South Africa moves into level 3 of the lockdown from 1 June.
Dlamini-Zuma also announced that open travel for teachers and students will be allowed under lockdown level 3 as academic activities are expected to resume.
The curfew for exercise, walking and cycling has been lifted as long as it is not conducted in groups.
Public training and recreational facilities remain closed except those conducting non-contact sporting matches without spectators.
