Applications are invited for the above-mentioned position to be based in the CoE Intrinsic Department: Adam Tas, Stellenbosch.

The successful incumbent will report to the Group Sensory Manager.

Key Performance Areas would include, but not limited to:

General housekeeping of the sensory laboratory preparation area, discussion room and tasting booths before and after tasting sessions
Ensure GLP is followed in the sensory and CoE Intrinsic labs and tasting areas
Preparation and cleaning of the sensory laboratory; tasting booths, glassware and samples according to the test designs and sensory best practice principles
Assistance in execution of sensory tests according to sensory best practices principles
Daily disposal of redundant samples post sensory testing
Daily collection of samples to be analyzed from stakeholders
Stock-keeping of raw materials, samples, base materials, consumables, and laboratory items
Collections of correct base materials from the cellars
Supporting with the preparation of training materials and reference standards for use in the sensory training sessions and improvement drives
Send samples to Central Laboratory for chemical analysis
Assist with sensory and other training initiatives within COE intrinsic that require preparation of and cleaning after tastings

The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:

Minimum qualification of Matric (Grade 12)
A minimum of 1-year experience working in a sensory laboratory environment as part of prior work experience as a sensory laboratory assistant.
Experience in a sensory laboratory environment specifically related to the preparation of samples according to a test design will be advantageous.
Good (demonstrated) knowledge and experience of sensory laboratory best practices principles
General laboratory practice skills and knowledge
Use of scientific equipment such as micropipettes and scale accurately
Proficiency in MS Office
Good organizational and time management skills and ability to manage tasks related to multiple projects
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to perform under pressure
Full sensory acuity in terms of taste and smell abilities
