The KwaZulu Cooperative Governance department has confirmed that the death toll from the floods in the province has risen to 23.
The death toll is expected to rise with more people trapped under rubble.
Heavy rains have battered parts of the province resulting in housing infrastructure collapsing and roads being damaged.
Scores of residents in Durban have been displaced after their homes were damaged during the floods.
