KZN CoGTA MEC to work with eThekwini Mayor to resolve billing issues

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Co-operative Governance Thulasizwe Buthelezi says he will work with eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba, to find solutions to the ratepayers’ issues. Buthelezi on Tuesday met with the eThekwini Ratepayers Movement.

Recently, former eThekwini Municipality manager Mike Sutcliffe and former Director-General in the Presidency Cassius Lubisi, were appointed to lead a Section 154 intervention by the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the municipality.

Buthelezi says residents raised concerns around billing irregularities among other issues.

“Today’s meeting was important because as the provincial government we have a duty to listen to our people and that has been lacking because the city manager of eThekwini over a period of two years has failed to respond to a single letter from the eThekwini Ratepayers Movement which is totally unacceptable. And I will be engaging with the Mayor today to see how we can take some of these issues further.
