Umkhokha: The Curse actor Kini Shandu learns the hard way

Umkhokha: The Curse star Kini Shandu has revealed that he is now more careful on social media.

This after his Facebook posts in January about women who conceive children out of wedlock were regarded as insulting and almost ruined his life.

One of his posts said the Zulu culture states that a man must not marry a woman who conceived children with another man. His posts went abuzz on social media, with mostly women expressing their anger.

Some called for him to be cancelled, while others said he should be fired from Umkhokha.

Kini later deleted the posts and took a break from social media. He also apologised through a statement.

The Sebenza Women Awards, which he founded, lost two sponsors and he was suspended from his executive position of the awards.

The former Gagasi FM presenter said he has learnt the hard way that social media can make and break a person and should be respected.

“My posts were careless. But I didn’t think they would cause so much noise and trouble for me. But I’ve learnt and I respect women under any circumstances. Social media is powerful,” said Kini.

He said he now uses social media to share jokes and for motivational posts.

“I’m very careful now. I make sure I don’t post anything that can drag anyone’s image through the mud. I only share jokes and motivational posts. I have noticed that people love me and have forgiven me. I have proven that by the number of comments I get every time I post something. I’ll never repeat the same mistake.

“I pray that one day we all unite and strive for one goal to develop one another in the different fields we are in and put Mzansi on the map by contributing to our country’s economic growth,” said Kini.
