Kidnapping in SA: Parents urged to be vigilant

It is never too early to teach children about safeguarding themselves against kidnapping, that’s according to Bianca Van Aswegan from Missing Children.

Van Aswegan says parents should also keep an eye on their children’s social media activity.

“Parents need to be more vigilant of their surroundings, especially in public places and of course they always say safety starts at home,” said Van Aswegan.

“We need to educate our children from a young age on how to keep themselves safe.

Meanwhile, police say that despite worrying voice notes about an increase in the kidnapping of children, they are not seeing a big rise in this type of crime.

Instead, adults kidnapped for ransom is on the increase.
