Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe is tipped to be one of the greatest footballers in history when he retires from football over a decade from now.
The footballer is the second highest-paid soccer player in the world as he earns an estimated annual income of $110m (R1.9 billion). Off the field, he earns $18m (R312 million), according to Forbes.
Having already broken several records at a young age, Mbappe also won the Golden Boot award at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Sunday 18 December with eight goals in the tournament. This is after scoring a hat-trick in the final against Argentina which ended 4-2 to the South American team in the penalty shootouts.
1. MBAPPE COMES FROM AN ATHLETIC FAMILY
Athleticism runs in the soccer player’s family. Mbapoe’s mother, Fayza Lamar, was a handball player who played in Division 1 in the 1990s. His father Wilfried Bondy, was a footballer who also played for AS Bondy. Mbappé’s adopted brother, Jirès Kembo-Ekoko, is also a professional footballer and his little brother Ethan plays for Paris Saint Germain’s under-12 league.
2. LOVES SNEAKERS
Mbappé is obsessed with sneakers. The footballer is previously said that he becomes “kid with a new toy” whenever he is given a new pair of sneakers. Currently, the 24-year-old soccer star has a sponsorship deal with Nike and has his own section on their website named, “Boutique De Mbappé” which shows you his choices of boots.
3. SECOND YOUNGEST PLAYER IN HISTORY TO SCORE IN A WORLD CUP
In 2018 in Russia, and at 19 years old, Mbappé was the first teenager to score in a World Cup final in decades. The last and only other teenager to do so was Brazilian legend Pelé, who scored at a World Cup final that his country went on to win 5-2 against Sweden in 1958.
4. MBAPPE IS A GODFATHER TO PANDAS
In 2021, at a special naming ceremony at Beauval Zool, france, Mbappé became the godfather to two PANDAS. At first, the baby pandas were named “Cotton Flower” and “Little Snow” but they were later renamed “Huanlili” and “Yuandudu” at the ceremony.
A the godfather, Mbappé’s role is to mainly create publicity and awareness for pandas.
5. HE IS NOT SINGLE
For some months last year it was not clear who Mbappe is dating between two models he was linked to Ines Rau and Rose Bertram, as French publication Corriere Dello Sports reported in 2022 that he has been spotted with Rau a couple of times, Marca eventually that he is dating Bertram.
Rau was born in France to Algerian parents. The transgender model, who is 32 years old, underwent gender reassignment surgery when she was only 16 years old.
Meanwhile, Belgian-born Bertram is the child of a Belgian father and her mother is from Cape Verde. She is 28 years old and has two children. Bertram was at the World Cup for both work and pleasure as she strutted her stuff on the runway and also supported her boyfriend.
