With just under a week to go before South Africans head to the polls for the 29 May elections, the Western Cape has identified 49 high-risk polling stations.
This was announced on Thursday by provincial police commissioner, Thembisile Patekile, at a law enforcement parade in Belhar in Cape Town.
There are 1,572 voting stations in the province and Patekile said that 475 of those had been identified as medium risk.
He added that at least six police officers would be stationed at each of the high-risk voting stations but did not reveal their locations.
“They’re right across the province, not in one particular area. It may be anywhere, and we mustn’t assume that it will only be in the Cape Flats, no.”
Patekile said that a large contingent of police officers would be out in full force until the voting process was complete.
