US Vice President Kamala Harris accepts democratic nomination for US presidency

US Vice President Kamala Harris has officially accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination to be the next President of the United States. The announcement was made on the final night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, coinciding with her 10th wedding anniversary with her husband, Doug Emhoff.

During her acceptance speech, Harris reflected on her career as a prosecutor, recalling the moments when she would say, “Kamala Harris for the people,” and infused that sentiment into her acceptance of the nomination.

Kamala Harris

“On behalf of every American regardless of party, race, gender or the language your grandmother speaks. On behalf of my mother and everyone who has ever set out on their own unlikely journey, on behalf of Americans like the people I grew up with, people who work hard, chase their dreams and look out for one another, on behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on earth, I accept your nomination to be President of the United States of America,” Harris said.

She emphasised the significance of the upcoming presidential election, describing it as the most important in the lives of Americans and in the history of the nation. Harris also criticised her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, referring to him as “an unserious man” and warning of the potential consequences of his return to the White House.
