Tshwane promises Hammanskraal residents running water

The City of Tshwane is promising Hammanskraal will have water again by Thursday at the latest.

Patients have been at risk of infection at the Jubilee Hospital in the area, as the facility is dependent on water tankers for potable water.

Some hospital wards have been closed and patients have no choice but to use five mobile toilets.

Jubilee Hospital CEO Tsakane Ngwenya explained, “we had to close the maternity unit and we are transferring patients to Odi Hospital for emergency operations and elective operations but we have stopped all other elective operations because we can’t operate without water.”

One of the biggest concerns is the health implications for both staff and patients.

Despite the difficult working conditions, Health MEC Bandile Masuku is urging staff not to throw in the towel and to continue serving the thirsty and dry Hammanskraal community.
