Good news for Muvhango viewers

SABC2 soapie Muvhango has officially announced its return for a 27th season, starting on 5 August, after weeks of speculation and silence.

The announcement was made during a launch event on Thursday, 25 July, at Chartwell in Joburg, slamming rumours that the long-running show was facing cancellation.

Duma Ka Ndlovu, the executive producer, revealed that the upcoming season would undergo significant changes to cater to a younger, more fashionable audience.

“This season will see the most dramatic changes yet. We’re responding to our viewers’ demands for a fancier, bolder, and more stylish show while continuing to tell compelling stories,” said Ndlovu.

The show will also feature a new logo and title sequence. In addition to revamping its look, Muvhango is reintroducing familiar faces and adding new characters to revive its storyline.

He said they’ve spiced up the characters and are adding new and old people to the show.

“We decided to bring back some characters who have been here before and throw them back into the show. Lloyd Nedohe, used to be with us some 10 or fifteen years ago. We’ve remodeled him and he’s coming back as another character. Lebo Elle Tisane is also coming back. Wiseman Zitha is also here.

“A young man called Tyson Mathonsi is also joining. Liteboho Molise is back with a bang; she’s our villain for the season. Finally, I decided to get big guns. There’s a young lady I worked with from when she was 15 in New York. She played the lead role in Sarafina! – Leleti Kumalo. Asidlali siyalwa!” Ndlovu said.

Jacqui Hlongwane, acting head of channel at SABC2, expressed enthusiasm for the show’s new direction.

“As the public broadcaster, SABC2 is thrilled to support Muvhango in its exciting transformation. The show has been a cornerstone of our programming, and we look forward to the fresh energy and captivating storytelling it promises to bring to our viewers.”
