ANC says GNU will place national interest over party politics

With President Cyril Ramaphosa officially sworn in for a second term, the African National Congress (ANC) is confident that the transition to a government of national unity will be smooth.

Ramaphosa was re-elected as the first citizen with the backing of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and other parties, following the ANC’s poor performance at the 2024 general elections.

This has forced the ANC to share administrative power with other organisations including its political rivals.

Speaking on the sidelines of Ramaphosa’s inauguration at the Union Buildings on Wednesday, ANC Chief Whip Mdumiseni Ntuli says the 7th administration will have a smooth term.

“I am quite certain that the experience of our people at local government will not find expression at national government..The level of maturity and the fact that this is where the apex leadership of the different political parties is located. I do believe that collectively we will place the national interest over and above our own party’s political positions,” said Ntuli.
