What used to be an average house has been transformed into Gauteng’s 66th Green Door.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko have launched the safe site as part of the provincial government’s response to gender-based violence and femicide.
A Green Door is a safe site within five kilometres of a police station that offers support and services to victims.
Mazibuko hopes to raise awareness about the issues fueling GBV violence.
“Over and above it becomes important that each and everyone, including the street committees, they are also assisting in redirecting people to places of safety in case of emergencies, that is why we even have a GBV car that can respond quickly when there is an incident that is reported ”
