Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) and traffic police are on high alert, appealing for motorists to be extra vigilant on the roads, and to avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding.
Gauteng has been placed on a thundershower alert, with severe downpours expected during load-shedding hours.
“EMS continues to urge the residents of Johannesburg to please be careful during this rainy period and stay safe,” said spokesperson Xolile Khumalo.
While residents contend with disruptive rain and slippery roads, traffic lights in some areas might be on the blink.
Eskom said it would continue implementing Stage 2 load shedding while working to replenish emergency reserves.
“Unplanned outages are currently at 13,449 megawatts of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 8,383 megawatts,” said utility spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.
