The Gauteng Education Department is warning schools not to withhold report cards due to non-payment of school fees.
A recent survey by a credit bureau shows that the collection of fees is currently the biggest challenge for private and public schools, partly due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Constitution is clear that the child must be protected and that a right to education, must always be protected,” says the Gauteng Education Department’s Steve Mabona.
Hyde Park High School Principal, Melanie Kallie, says parents being unable to pay school fees has been a grave challenge for the school.
