MEC Panyaza Lesufi determined to accommodate Gauteng homeless

Gauteng’s acting Social Development MEC Panyaza Lesufi says the department underestimated the number of homeless people in the province. Lesufi visited a site in Pretoria on Wednesday where homeless people are being accommodated for the lockdown.

The MEC said the provincial government are determined to get everyone off the streets in a bid to fight the spread of COVID-19. In Johannesburg, about 2,000 vulnerable people are being housed in shelters and relocated to temporary accommodation but, this is a far bigger problem to grapple with. An estimated 13,000 homeless people still need to be found and relocated to temporary shelters.

The NICD has another Clinician Hotline to improve #COVID19 communication and support for healthcare providers. The Clinician Hotline is 0800 11 1131, operating 24 hrs. The Public Hotline is 0800 029 999 also operating 24hrs.
