To limit tender corruption, the Gauteng government says it is working on automating its bid adjudication processes.
The provincial government said this would create transparency into how tenders are awarded but also ensure contracts are awarded based on merit.
In a media briefing earlier on Sunday, Gauteng Finance MEC Lebogang Maile said the provincial government was committed to transforming its supplier base.
Maile said the goal was to award government contracts to new players who have previously been disadvantaged.
“Our tenders must be adjudicated transparently. Everybody must know how a decision has been reached on any tender so there are no secrets, we will also look at the possibility of automating our procurement systems so we limit the interference of humans because when there are humans involved that is when fraud and corruption happens.”
