Electricity restored in Joburg CBD after gas explosion

City Power says it’s switched on power to many residents in the Johannesburg CBD affected by last week’s explosion.

All properties supplied by the Bree substation have been reconnected.

The city says its teams have been working through the night since emergency services gave the all-clear to restore electricity.

Feeder cables under the collapsed road structure along Lillian Ngoyi Street (formerly Bree Street) have been restored.

CBD residents who still have no electricity are advised to log a call, so city technicians can attend to it.
