DMRE announces latest fuel prices, motorists to pay more for petrol from 1 May

From 1 May, motorists will pay 37 cents more for petrol, that’s R25.49 inland and R24.70 cents at the coast, while diesel, paraffin, and gas consumers will pay less.

Diesel will decrease by 30 and 36 cents while paraffin will decrease by 19 cents per litre.

The mineral resources and energy department made the announcement on Monday night, attributing the latest price changes to increased international petrol prices but not for diesel and paraffin.

The department said in a statement that growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and sustained production cuts by OPEC+ countries were some of the main contributing factors to the increase.

In April, military tensions between Israel and Iran saw oil prices surge.
