Tributes continue to flow in for Aretha Franklin

Tributes continue to pour out for Aretha Franklin, who died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 76. Christina Aguilera tweeted, “Aretha was such a timeless inspiration to me and so many others, the ultimate queen, thank you for the gift of your voice, music and unshakeable soul .

Former Attorney General Eric Holder called Franklin “an American icon who defined this nation’s music,” writing, “Through her unparalleled gift and hard work she spoke for people too often without their own voice. Recalling seeing Franklin perform at the very beginning of the soul singer’s career, Parton tweeted: “She was amazing then and just became greater through the years. Talk about R.E.S.P.E.C.T., we have it for you, Aretha. You will never be forgotten.”

Dozens of stars across the worlds of music and entertainment paid tribute to Franklin on Thursday, including Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey, Adele and Elton John.

Later, Grande and The Roots performed a tribute on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, singing Franklin’s 1967 hit Natural Woman.
