SA COVID-19: Expert says regulations are not fit for purpose

The Department of Health’s extension of regulations on masking, gatherings, and travel are not fit for purpose.

That’s according to Professor of Vaccinology, Shabir Madhi.

Madhi says the government’s regulations are full of contradictions and may further harm the country’s already ailing economy.

He says the Health Department keeps ignoring the advice of its own Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 infections are on an upward trajectory.

They’ve jumped to nearly 10,000 new cases in the last 24 hours.

Madhi says the vast majority of infected people are not getting tested.

He said the actual number of infections could be as high as 30,000 or even 40,000.
