EURO 2020 Full-time: Sweden 3-2 Poland

EURO 2020 Full-time: Sweden 3-2 Poland. Sweden put 3 past Poland to book a place in the EURO 2020 last 16. In the end it was failure for Poland, but at least it was gallant failure. A campaign that had seemed to be fizzling disappointingly away suddenly came to life in its final 30 minutes as Robert Lewandowski, almost single-handed, inspired a fightback.

Poland came from 2-0 down to level, but as they desperately sought the goal that would have taken them through, Viktor Claesson snatched the winner for Sweden. So Sweden, their air of clinical control shattered in the frantic final minutes, topped the group above Spain and they will play a best third-place team in the last 16 in Glasgow on Tuesday.

Sweden netted their first goal from open play at Euro 2020 just 82 seconds into their final group game following Emil Forsberg’s composed angled finish in St Petersburg.  Substitute Viktor Claesson scored a 93rd-minute winner for Sweden to knock Poland, who had come back from 2-0 down, out of Euro 2020.

The RB Leipzig midfielder doubled the lead with a first-time shot – his third goal at the tournament – before Robert Lewandowski, who had earlier missed a golden chance, produced a quality arrowed finish to give Poland hope.

Lewandowski hit an 84th-minute equaliser to give hope to Poland, who needed to win to advance, but they were undone by Claesson’s late winner. In a captivating game, captain Lewandowski was guilty of an incredible miss at 0-0.

After heading against the underside of the bar from a corner, the prolific Bayern Munich forward’s follow-up header from the rebound struck the bar from just two yards out.
