Authorities from the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality insisted that floods, aging infrastructure and vandalism were to blame for the water outages in the city.
On Wednesday, eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda conducted inspections where water infrastructure is being repaired.
This came after communities in the north of Durban staged sporadic protests demanding water after being left with dry taps for months.
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda said the problem would be solved.
“With all these factors put together, it puts more strain on performance to deliver water as expected.”
He said temporary measures, such as boreholes, had been put in place for some communities.
“This is just a mitigation within this period when we are still fixing the infrastructure.”
