
Legendary South African author Elsa Joubert has died, age 97. Joubert was known for her book Die Swerfjare van Poppie Nongena, The Long Journey of Poppie Nongena.
The book was translated into 13 languages and most recently turned into an award-winning film.
It was also voted one of the top hundred best books of the 20th century. She received numerous awards including the Hertzog Prize one of the most prestigious awards for Afrikaans writing and was awarded an honourary doctorate by the University of Stellenbosch.
