NPA refuses to give details of police investigation into Ditebogo Phalane’s murder

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has refused to divulge any details on the police’s investigation into the senseless murder of five-year-old Ditebogo Phalane.

Two more suspects made an appearance at the Atteridgeville Magistrates Court on Wednesday on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of ammunition.

But prosecutors insist they have not been directly linked to the murder.

The child was shot at the gate of his home, almost two weeks ago, in a hijacking while he was welcoming his father home.

The NPA has chosen to remain mum on why police insist on drawing a link between the two suspects who appeared in court on Wednesday and the murder of Phalane.

Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana: “At this stage, I do not want to divulge the nature of the investigations because I do not want to compromise the investigations. If you might be aware that two more accused appeared in court last week, so we do not want to divulge the nature of the police investigations.”

Mahanjana said that at this stage, there was no link between the suspects and the murder of Phalane.

The matter has been postponed to next week for bail proceedings.
