Digital Preservation Mentor needed urgently: APPLY NOW

Digital Preservation is a strategic priority for the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF) and experienced, qualified professionals in the digitital preservation field are rare in South Africa. The volunteer will research best practice and processes to ensure the ongoing preservation work of the NMF Archive is carried out in accordance with the NMF Board’s Strategic Priorities and at the highest standards.

This position is part of an ongoing engagement between the Australian Volunteers Program and, who hosted two volunteer in 2015 and 2018 in roles as Digital Archivists. The position is in alignment with DFAT’s in-country focus on supporting the building and strengthening of institutions/organisations that promote stability and democracy.

You’ll be researching best practice and processes to ensure the ongoing preservation work of the NMF archive is carried out in accordance with the NMF board’s strategic priorities.
You’ll need a Bachelor’s degree in archiving, digital preservation, IT or related fields (or equivalent) along with relevant experience in the field.
You’ll gain invaluable experience becoming part of the community of Johannesburg, a modern city. It is culturally, racially and linguistically diverse, and is home to people from across the African continent.

Living allowance: $2,595.00

The monthly living allowance enables you to live a modest local lifestyle. Based on the cost of living in a particular country, it covers food, your daily commute, communication and other local costs. It is not set to enable you to meet financial commitments at home, such as a mortgage or a personal loan.
