Requirements:

  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic with experience working on Heavy Machinery and Earthmoving Equipment
  • Basic computer literacy (Ability to access and use computer and other required software programs.)
  • Good time management skills.
  • Work under minimal supervision and where required
  • To be determined and written into the individual training plan upon commencement.
  • Basic skills in automotive electrics and hydraulics.

  • Trade qualified mechanic.
  • MR, HR forklift licences.
  • Current drivers licence.
  • Demonstrated level of motivation, productivity and safety.
  • Good Level of literacy and numeracy.
  • Knowledge of workshop procedures and automotive repairs.
  • Contemporary Plant/fleet maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of the diverse range of plant, equipment and associated aspects applicable to workshop operations.
  • Able to utilise hand tools, welding/cutting equipment
  • Able to use all safety equipment when working with or near hazardous materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the repairs and maintenance of customer and company owned plant and equipment, are carried out in a safe and efficient manner using methods and practices well established in the automotive repair trade.
  • All items of plant leaving the workshop are safe and fit for operational purposes.
    Routine, scheduled, ad-hoc and breakdown, maintenance and repair work are carried out correctly and efficiently.
  • Ensure that plant, equipment and other PTT assets maintained to a high operational standard.
  • Automotive repairs and maintenance are undertaken in a safe, timely and competent manner.
  • Working relationships with other customers and staff are cooperative and effective.
  • Record keeping is undertaken in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Work is undertaken in a safe manner consistent with company Occupational, Health and Safety policy.
  • Effective and courteous standard of customer service.
  • Undertake automotive repairs to all aspects of customers and company plant and equipment, including diagnosis of problems, repairs and testing. Areas in which skills and knowledge are required are diesel and petrol engines, basic hydraulics, basic automotive electrical, transmissions and small petrol/two stroke engines. Works undertaken in a tradesman-like manner.
  • Undertake minor welding repairs to plant and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy personal work area and assist with general cleaning duties in a workshop environment.
  • Utilization of hand tools, welding/cutting equipment and all safety equipment when working with or near hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a daily record of all work task and materials on a job card.
  • Undertake operation of other plant or equipment where suitably licensed and experienced.
  • Work under minimal supervision and where required, assistance is available from the senior leading worker or workshop manager.
  • Other duties as required from time to time, as per direction.
  • Encourage and support industrious, harmonious and team orientated work groups.
  • Assist in the identification of training needs.
  • Assist in coaching and training staff, including apprentices, trainees and casuals, to develop work skills and increase efficiency.
  • Ensure correct accounting for labour, equipment and materials by maintaining accurate up-to-date records as required by management, time sheets, weekly work sheets, job cards etc This may require the use of computer software to record and access information.
  • Ensure equipment and materials required are procured from the store or external suppliers in accordance with company purchasing policy and limits of delegation.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement in work practices.
  • Ensure workgroups respond appropriately to customer and client requests.
  • Ensure communication with staff and customers is at all times clear and courteous.
  • Some out of hours work maybe required on a call out basis.
  • Undertake other duties as required from time to time as directed.
  • Observe and comply with all Health and safety policies and procedures within the company including all safe operating procedures or instructions.
  • Take all reasonable steps to ensure personal safety and that of others is not put at risk through any act or omission in relation the above.
  • Report any identified hazards, incidents including near misses or injuries which arise in the course of work, using the systems and/or documentation available for such reporting.
  • Fulfil individual requirements to meet any documented WHS objectives arising from biannual performance and development reviews.
  • Not endanger personal safety or that of others by undertaking work whilst under the influence of alcohol or a drug in breach of councils drug and alcohol policy.
