KwaZulu-Natal police said the additional deployment of police officers to the province has boosted their crime prevention operations.
Over 1,000 officers were sent to KwaZulu-Natal as a result of threats of violence after the general elections.
While there’s been no election-related incidents, police said the extra boots on the ground had been helpful.
“Following the additional deployment, there have been several arrests that include illegal firearms and ammunition, stolen vehicles, and illegal liquor trade, etc.,” said KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Jay Naicker.
“Over and above that, these members have assisted the province by attending to several community protests, both peaceful and violent.”
He said the police’s top brass in the province would give a public update on the deployments soon.
“They have been on the ground in various parts of the province and are continuing with our prime prevention operations, which they are forming part of.
“Very soon, the provincial commissioner will take the community of KwaZulu-Natal into confidence and outline the success achieved.”
