The country’s daily COVID-19 death toll continues to climb. The health department said 523 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.
It said 13,751 more people have tested positive for the virus.
The Western Cape has overtaken Gauteng as the province with the highest daily infection rate.
Just under 4,000 people in that province have tested positive, compared to 3,655 in Gauteng.
Almost 56,000 tests were conducted in the last reporting period and over 7,700 people have recovered from the virus.

A woman is traumatized after she was kidnapped and repeatedly raped over 19 days. The woman said her horrific ordeal started on 4 July, when she got a lift from three men she met at a filling station in Tzaneen, Limpopo.
She said she thought they would drop her off near her house but they kidnapped her and turned her into a s.e.x slave. The 26-year-old farmworker said she had earlier been shopping at Tzaneen Mall. Learn More
