Dam levels exceed capacity after rains

The already-brimming water level at local dams is expected to rise even further, with more heavy rainfall expected in the region.

According to uMngeni-uThukela Water’s website, a number of areas in the province received a decent amount of rainfall over the past few days, boosting the water levels at dams.

As of Thursday, Midmar Dam was at 100,38% full, after receiving 60 mm overnight in the huge thunderstorm that struck parts of the province.

Similarly, Albert Falls Dam, which was at 100,66% full, received 15,5 mm in the heavy rainfall early on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the South African Weather Services (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for thunderstorms and rain for most parts of KZN until the weekend, which will add to the already full dams.
