South Africa’s COVID-19 related deaths have passed the 18,000.
The Department of Health reported 165 more COVID-19 related deaths on Tuesday.
The death toll in the country now stands at 18,028.
The country has recorded 1,178 new cases identified since the last report.
That brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa to 694, 537, but with a recovery rate of 90-per cent, there are just over 50,000 active cases in the country.
Of the 163 deaths reported today, 18 occurred in the past 24-48 hours: 3 in the Eastern Cape, 1 in Mpumalanga, 2 in Gauteng, 2 from Northern Cape and 10 in the Western Cape.

In Other News – 2 life sentences for the man who raped two sisters aged 7 and 9
The Brandfort Regional Court has sentenced a 41-year-old man to two life terms behind bars for raping two sisters, aged 9 and 7, in 2010.
Mojalefa Seleke was sentenced on Monday, Free State National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phaladi Shuping said.
According to Shuping, Seleke lured the young girls to a church and raped them on different occasions. learn more
