COVID-19: DA wants govt to prioritise SA health workers

The DA wants the government to prioritise local healthcare professionals in the fight against COVID-19. South Africa has now confirmed more than 4,700 COVID-19 infections and 90 deaths.

On Monday, over 200 Cuban medical professionals landed in the country to join the fight against COVID-19. The team made up of doctors and specialists will be deployed across the country.

But DA MP Siviwe Gwarube said South African specialists and healthcare workers must be used to their capacity before relying on foreign aid that potentially comes at a cost. Gwarube said the party welcomes assistance from all corners but said local resources must be fully utilised.
